Top 9 Best Free iPhone Apps Every Mac User must know
If you're in the Apple ecosystem you might already be
enjoying the seamlessness between the devices for instance taking your iPhone
call from your Mac or ship browsing from that of your Mac Safari to that of your
iPhone but guess what there are third-party apps that go one step further like
unlocking your Mac from your iPhone using your iPad as a second monitor or
typing on your iPhone using your Mac's keyboard
There are a lot of cool stuff you can do with these applications
so what are we waiting for let's check them out shall we so let's
Start with unlocking your Mac point now if you have an Apple
watch you can easily unlock your Mac but what if you don't have an Apple watch
well you can also use your iPhone instead near lock is a free app which allows
you to unlock your Mac without having to type your password the app offers
multiple options you can use your face ID , touch ID or even the proximity to
lock or unlock your MacBook but my favourite feature in the app is that it lets
you know who is trying to unlock your Mac by clicking a picture using your
Mac's webcam it also has a clipboard manager to copy and paste text between the
devices but since this feature is now natively available in the Apple ecosystem
it doesn't count for much
Okay so now that you have unlocked your Mac how about we extend its display and that's where Duet display comes in this iPad app lets you use your iPad as a secondary display for your MacBook and on windows laptop. we use it to view a Flimora playback on our iPad while editing it on a Window fun isn't it and the best part is you can use both your touch and type feature on your iPad which is particularly useful if you have an Apple pencil to get started the app needs to be installed on both of your devices connect both of them with a cable or high-speed Wi-Fi and you're good to go but the app will cost you around ten dollars in my opinion it's totally worth it go check it out
So if ever been in a situation where your iMac or MacBook is
kept at a distance but you are too lazy to walk towards it well then remote
mouse is for you remote mouse as the name suggests uses your iPhone as a
trackpad for your Mac book you can move around the cursor and select text just
like you do it on the trackpad it even has a separate tab that brings out the
media controls on your iPhone screen and it works pretty much like the IR
remote the app of course has a keyboard which works in a landscape mode but my favourite
part of the app is the app launcher mode it places all your Launchpad apps in
the same sequence of your iPhone screen just tap and it will launch the app on
your MacBook pretty cool right remote mouse is free to download check it out
Now that you know how to control your Mac from your iPhone
how about we go the other way around Mocha keyboard app and I hope I'm saying it
right is a simple app that connects your MacBook keyboard to your iPhone simply
open the app on your MacBook and it will try and connect to your iPhone where the
two Bluetooth connection and that's it now type anything on your Mac and the strokes
will magically appear on your phone window how cool is that the app has two
versions on the Mac App Store the only difference between the two is that the
free version doesn't support delete key which anyway is better than the apps
like type 2 phone which no doubt is popular but has a paid version only which
cost 10 dollars
·
AirBuddy
Ok so this next step doesn't necessarily bridge the gap
between your Mac and iPhone but if you have airpods it's worth considering
thanks to the w1 chip the moment you bring your airpods closer to your iPhone
it gives you a nice-looking pop-up but the connection process in the Mac well
it isn't that intuitive with AirBuddy however you get the same iPhone like pop
up on your Mac there's also Bridget on your Mac Notification Centre that lets
you monitor the battery level if you have airpods and often switch it between your
Mac and iOS definitely give this one a try AirBuddy comes with pay what you
want model but the minimum is $5
·
EpocCam
This next app turns your iPhone into a security camera or a
baby monitor for instance if I'm shooting a video and want to see how the setup
looks like I can set up the iPhone near my DSLR and see the footage happening
real time on my Mac's bigger screen of course you can do the similar thing with
QuickTime but EpocCam on the other hand works on Wi-Fi the only caveat though
is ads in the free version although you can remove it and get features like
microphone manual focus flashlight etc. by upgrading to paid version
Okay so you Mac has a mic but let's be honest it's not that
great of course you can buy USB mic from Amazon but turns out you can use your
iPhone as a mic as well Microphone live is a free app that lets you do exactly
that for instance if you use audacity to record voice overs for your YouTube videos
you can set the source on you to iPhone and the cool thing is it works with any
other audio recording app on your Mac the setup is bit over something though
first you need to download the app on your phone and then connect it to your computer
using the USB cable yes you will need cables next on your Mac open audio MIDI
setup find your iPhone in the list and then enable it from here everything that
you say on your iPhone will get rerouted to your Mac pretty cool right now
·
Airfoil
That you know how to use your iPhone as a mic how about we
use it as a speaker but why you wanna do that well maybe you want to watch a
movie on your Mac and want to listen to the audio from the comfort of your bed
or let's just say the speakers on your Mac isn't working and to fix all that
you can use airfoil once it detects the iPhone click on it and there you go anything
you play on your Mac will be rerouted to your iPhone the app is free and works
fine although in the trial mode the quality degrades after 10 minutes which
obviously you can remove by getting the paid version that cost 35 $
Last but not the least how would we play some games on your
Mac and iPhone because why not everything has to be useful so Airconsole turns
your iPhone into a motion controller and lets you play simple games on the
website but the cool part here is your friends can also connect their phones
and play multiplayer games you don't even need to download any application
everything works on a Web browser
Notes :-
So there you go these were some of the cool applications to
bridge the gap between Mac and iOS let me know which is your favourite one in
the comment section.
